Now On formed in the mid-2000s, bringing together some of Michigan’s strongest underground hip-hop talent. The group included Jackson Perry, Mike Demps (IX Lives)—son of Detroit legend Larry “Squirrel” Demps of The Dramatics—and Andrew Cohen (DJ Haircut, now known as Mayer Hawthorne).
During this period, I worked directly with the group, helping manage bookings, and securing live shows—
Worked as an entertainment agent for Stars The Agency, booking talent across every style of entertainment, from live bands, classical musicians to specialty performers and unique acts like ice sculptors. Managed booking and client relations for a wide range of artists, including well-known acts such as Grammy Award Winning Group Train, Boz Scaggs & others. This role expanded my experience in negotiating contracts, coordinating performances, handling diverse entertainment throughout the Bay Area.
I worked in A&R for Ocean Floor Records in the mid-'90s when conscious hip-hop was raw and real. We were involved with artists like Haiku D'Etat, Abstract Rude, Great Scott, Myka 9 and Aceyalone-artists who stood for something. Ocean Floor wasn't corporate; it was underground, and all heart, and being part of that era was one of the realest experiences I've ever had in music.
